Tip 16…eBay Revisited
Greetings from Moscow, Idaho!
This is Stephen Beck with Family Entrepreneurs.
Before we get started:
I plan to change the format a little. So far I have been a tad inconsistent with
my newsletters owing to the amount of information in each one.
I will be sending out newsletters more
frequently, but they will not be as long. And sometimes they will have both
Biblia and Practica and sometimes they will only have one. That is not to say
that Biblia is not important...it is the reason that we do all that we do (or
should be!). But, in an effort to get as much information to you in a timely
manner as I can, I will have to shorten the newsletters a bit.
Practica
Lately the emails you have sent me have been revolving around the subject of
eBay, so I thought
I would publish a few of my answers here in the hopes that those brave souls who
email me questions are speaking for the silent majority!
I just
started seriously reading your newsletters. I am curious about Ebay. How do you
find things to sell on Ebay?
Thank you so much!!
Since we are
in the book business, that was a natural place to start for us. Anything
that we can buy in larger quantities and has a good markup we
test on eBay. If it sells well, we write a template in turbo-lister and
list it every week. This will work with any item, but I like to test in
small quantities. Clothes are another item that sells well, but we have
not dabbled there yet.
Perhaps the
best explanation on finding product is Sydney Johnston’s Online Auction
Genius Course. She calls her method of finding products the “flood”. She
sends off to every wholesaler she can (and she has a bunch listed in her
course) and then she gives a step by step method for weeding out the
good from the bad and the better from the best. She has the most
comprehensive method for finding products, listing them and putting
together a system that I have ever seen.
- You
can read more about her course in my review here:

-
-
- She
also has a lot of free (and good!) information on her site. Here is
the link to her site:

Hope this
helps,

My husband has read everything he can get his hands on about selling on
Ebay, but no one tells you how to find a niche. It is very frustrating.
How do you find a product that has a large enough profit margin to make
selling it on Ebay worth it?
Thank you for any help you can give.
Sydney Johnson, the
eBay Queen and Guru, says you find products that have high profit margin
by using the "flood" method. She finds all of the wholesale places she
can and then writes them for a catalog. This is when the flood hits. All
of these wholesalers will send you catalogs and you can look at them at
your leisure and determine what is right for you. Using a PO Box will
keep all of this stuff out of your personal mailbox. You can then
research on eBay to see the demand for the higher profit margin products
and then test with a few to see if there is, indeed, a demand.
- She explains the
whole process as well as gives lots of wholesaler websites in her
course:
-
- Another place to
look for wholesalers is Chris Malta's wholesaler list:

-
- A great tool for
determining the demand (good!) and competition (bad!) for a particular
product is Chris Malta's Market Wizard:

Hope this helps you
get started.
