Recharging Those Batteries!

Hey! We just got back from Yanik Silver’s Underground Seminar in Washington DC. Wow, it is so cool to hang out with other like-minded entrepreneurs. Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was taking our son, Hunter, and seeing him get excited about starting an online business of his own.

Hunter is 17 and Yanik allowed him to attend all the young entreprenuer events. (Pictured left: Hunter and Yanik.) Hunter met 5-6 speakers who had become millionaires in their twenties. Then he met “older” entrepreneurs in a cool mastermind where the older members helped him brainstorm a product and gave him tips on how to market that product.

So, Hunter is going to release an ebook in the next few weeks about a business he ran for 4 years when we were in Idaho. Stay tuned for details!

And that is one of the incredible things about the Yanik’s Underground Seminar. Their tag line is “have fun, make money and give back”. How Can Success Groups Help Your Business?

Interaction with other entrepreneurs could be the number one activity for true success in a home based business. Isolation is a killer! So, what should you do?

When you have someone with whom you discuss your goals and dreams, you have someone who can check up on your activity to see if it matches your goals. You also have a fellow entrepreneur who can help you solve problems, motivate you and encourage you to choose the right activities each day as you work your home business. There are many other reasons you should have an success partner. Let me give you a few to ponder.

1. Accomplish more goals

When you make your goals public with an success partner, you are much more likely to follow through with the activities needed to meet those goals. When I tell someone that I want to launch a product by a certain date, I don’t want to look inept. I want to look successful So, I will work as hard as necessary to complete that goal. For me, putting a goal on the calendar and discussing it with Steve is a fantastic way to make sure we succeed. Steve is my success partner, but not everyone has a success partner at home.

2. Right thinking for success in your business

Have you ever heard that your perspective on life is similar to the 5 people you are most around. When you spend time with success partners, you will begin to think like they do. When your success partner is a home business entrepreneur, you will be encouraged to think outside the box, like they do. The right type of thinking is imperative to succeed in a home based business, especially when you are working on your own at home.

3. Motivation and encouragement when times are tough

Success partners are terrific at motivating each other when times get tough. When you are working alone at home, it can sometimes be hard to keep going through difficult problems. A success partner is great at encouraging you during those tough times. Success partners are also helpful in motivating each other to complete tasks and project for long-term success. You need other people to succeed in life or in your business.

4. Brainstorm best solutions to any problem

As entrepreneurs, we all encounter problems in our business. Success partners are great to discuss solutions. In your discussion, you have the opportunity to brainstorm alternative ways to handle the problem. In this way, you have several possible solutions to a specific problem. Then, you can look at each solution and decide which one works best. Steve & I have each other. We often leave the house and discuss our problems. As we talk through solutions, we come up with other possible ways to work out our problem.

5. Less likely to quit

Do you ever feel like quitting on your home business? We all have those days when everything falls apart and we want to “throw in the towel”. When you have an success partner, you can call them when you are down. At that time, they can encourage you to keep going. We all need others to keep us motivated so we won’t quit. When Steve is down, I am usually up. When I am doubtful, he is usually positive about our business. That’s what success partners are all about.

Do you have an success partner? If not, you need to get one to encourage and motivate you to keep up the good work.

“Snow in Texas”

Yep, you read that right. It snowed for about 5 hours last Tuesday and reminded me of Idaho . . . the gently falling snowflakes over our giant yard of snow. We probably got 2-3″, more snow than they are getting back in Idaho . . . woohoo!

What is Success & How Can I Get It?

Steve & I went out last night and discussed all sorts of issues – business, theology, kids, friends. It was a relaxing time to “just talk”. . . and we haven’t really done that since Ashley’s wedding. I’m sure you can relate to busy lives and trying to find time to unwind. We talked about true fulfillment and being successful in different areas of our lives. Sometimes it is hard to measure, but I’d like to share some tips that help me focus on what’s important and keep working towards our goals.

Know Your “Why”
For me to keep working, especially when I’m having a hard day, I need to have a really big “why”. Why are Steve & I working this business? Why are we trying to make money? You need to answer these questions, just like we have. The bigger my why, the quicker I’ll take action towards being successful.

Many of you have heard some of our “why’s”. We want to have the freedom to take trips and visit our kids as they leave our home. We want to go on mission trips and share the good news of Jesus Christ. We want to take our kids (and eventually our grandkids) on family vacations as they raise their own families. In other words, we want to be able to leave our home and still have money to support us.

WHY are you working your online or offline business?

If your reason is big enough, you will do whatever it takes to be successful. If you don’t “really” need to make extra money, you won’t put the take action or put in the necessary time.

Yesterday, I heard my good friend, David Frey, discuss what he does to keep building his business. When he has days that everything is falling apart, he pulls out a card from his wallet. On the card, is a picture of his family. He looks at them for a few seconds. On the reverse side is a statement of WHY he is building a business. “I am building a SOC business so that my family will have money even if I’m not here.” That is powerful. He reads that statement 5-6 times and it gets him over the hump. Now, he’s ready to get back to work, taking action towards his successful business.

Today I made a card with my why. I have a picture of my family and missionaries. On the back, I wrote, “I am building a successful business so I can travel away from my home to encourage my kids & missionaries in Jesus Christ.”

What is your WHY?

Make your card today. Keep it at your desk. Put it in your wallet. Hang it on the bathroom mirror. Put it somewhere that you will see it everyday and use it when those horrible days arise.

I’m going to tell you about a secret formula I’ve been using for about a year now. It’s called the Accelerated Product Creation Formula. It’s guaranteed to help you create a great product with
NO COST TO YOU and at HALF THE TIME other methods take.

Step 1: Invite your target market to a free webinar

Invite your target market to a free webinar that helps people solve a problem in your niche. Tell them how you had the same problem and what that problem cost you in terms of money, time,
frustration and perhaps lost relationships.

Explain how you overcame the problem and describe your results. Then identify the obstacles to overcoming their problem and why they can’t solve it by themselves. Then offer the solution -
a 4-part webinar class where you will go into great detail solving the problem.

Step 2: Sell your attendees into a 4-part webinar class

On the free webinar, invite your attendees to join your 4-part webinar class for “X” amount of dollars where you will show them the solution and answer all their questions. Each part can be about 45 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of question and answer. And it can all be done from your laptop!

Step 3: Record the 4-part webinar class and sell the recording as a home study course.

Look at the benefits here:

  • You do not create the 4-part class until you know there is demand. Meaning, you only create the class when people buy it on the free webinar!
     
  • Since you are recording the class, you are getting paid to create your home study course!
     
  • The free webinar and 4-part class time line can be compressed if you have the class twice a week so you can create your multi-media home study course in less than 3 weeks!
  • Since you are answering their questions every class, you are getting valuable feedback from your students and significantly increasing the value of your home study course!

Step 4: Present the same free webinar (step 1) to another group of people and sell them your new home study course!

Schedule more free webinars and sell them your new home study course, which is the recording of your 4-part webinar class. You never have to do the 4-part webinar class again, just sell the
recording over and over.

Then do the same process with another webinar class, then another, then another…

Before you click away, let me tell you I have a new found respect for Mr. Parsons.  He is most known for his controversial Super Bowl commercials.  But there is much more to this man.

Like many successful entrepreneurs, Bob Parsons failed 5th grade and barely graduated from high school.  One reason he graduated was he already enlisted as a marine.  As a marine, he became a combat soldier.  When he arrived at Viet Nam, he had one of those soul searching experiences.  As he sat on the top of the hill of a destroyed French fort, he contemplated death and found peace. He only wanted to make it one day at a time…to mail call the next day. In Viet Name, he saved a Marine who several months later saved his life.  He survived his days at Viet Nam and began to realize your perspective on life greatly affects what happens to you.

When he returned home to the states, he attended University of Baltimore and graduated magna cum laude.  What a change from high school where he barely graduated.  After several years at his accounting job, he developed an accounting software, Money Counts.  At one time, he asked a friend to invest in Money Counts, but was turned down.  Through many lows, it was the “dream that kept him going”, not the money.  This is another important concept to remember as you purse your own entrepreneurial success.

With Money Counts, he had the opportunity to advertise on the back cover of a financial magazine.  He decided to invest in the ad, but to choose carefully how he advertised.  In the past, he chose to charge $97, $67 and eventually $47 for his software.  When he advertised in the magazine, he wanted to go directly opposite of all the other software products.  He charged $12 and sold a boatload of software.  One of the mantras of Money Counts is excellent customer service.  After a few years, he sold his company for $60 million.  I wonder what his friend who didn’t invest $5000 thought about that sale.

A year after the sale, he was completely bored and decided to go back into business.  He tried many things, but landed on selling domains.  Once again, he decided to go against the norm for dot.coms and advertise on TV.  If he’s going to advertise on TV, why not make a great impression and advertise during the Super Bowl.  As he developed his ad, he wanted to make a “great” impression so his ad had to be edgy.  Although I wouldn’t produce the sexual ad GoDaddy.com produced, his goal was accomplished.  He made a splash in the American public and people are talking about his ads, to this day.

From that point, GoDaddy has soared in sales.  They have also soared in customer service.  At Underground Seminar 5, we heard someone say they answer their phone at the first ring.  That’s amazing!  And it’s amazing that a website would post an 800 phone number.

As Bob Parson says, what goes around comes around, just like saving that Marine Bob saved, who later saved Bob.  Mr. Parsons strives for terrific customer service in both his companies.  He only wanted to make it to mail call the next day. He’s also chosen to go against conventional ways of pricing and advertising.  As a war veteran who served his country well, Mr. Parsons showed me his is much different personally & professionally than the Super Bowl ads for GoDaddy.com
