If you are looking to start a coaching business, one of the best ways to get clients is to write and blast articles around your keyword phrases. Within these articles, you want to provide links at the conclusion of the article where you promote yourself and send them back to your website. This promotion is referred to as the resource box and this is where you put your website link. If possible, make sure the link is clickable for your keyword. For example:
“John Smith specializes in performance based coaching for individuals looking to get the most out of their business or life. He is currently offering a personal coaching consultation complementary that you can sign up for on his website.”
(“Personal coaching” is the keyword that would be a link your readers would click on to go to your website as this is one of the words you may want to target for a coaching business.)

After clicking on your website link, the next step is to get the prospect to become a potential coaching client. Most people that start a coaching business provide complementary consulting sessions to give the prospect a taste of what they have to offer. You can do the same and when they sign up for their session, you can also offer any products that you might sell to them.
Once you have some articles to work with, the next step is to submit them to article directories and ezine directories on the web. This is a very effective strategy. The reason why is because it allows you to leverage other websites to get traffic to your site. Website owners post articles written by other people on their website, blog or ezine with a link back to the author. This link is the payment you receive for writing the article because it equates to traffic from the website as well as better positioning in the search engines.
So here is an overview of this strategy in a nutshell. To start a coaching business you provide great article content and allow other website owners to use it. The only requirement is that they have to credit you as the author. This is where the resource box comes in, because it has your name as well as a link back to your website. As you continue to submit articles over the internet, you will have more and more links coming back to your website. For example, if one of your articles is used by 200 websites, that gives you 200 links that are going back to your website.
Keep in mind article marketing is one of the best strategies for you to use to generate potential clients for your business. It does this through exposure as well as through helping your search engine positioning. As a result, you should be able to attract new clients as you start a coaching business.

You wrote: “…if one of your articles is used by 200 websites, that gives you 200 links that are going back to your website.”
In theory this is correct But in reality, it’s very unlikely that 200 websites will republish your article, and even more unlikely is that all 200 will keep your link in tact. Many will simply “forget” to include it, since it doesn’t benefit them to keep it in.
Article marketing is worthwhile, but I think your results won’t be as significant as your article suggests.
I agree that article marketing is still a very strong way to build authority, build links to your site and find new clients, especially if you have a great “ethical bribe” in your resource box that calls them to action.
You can always spin the article with a little variation and post it to your blog and combine the RSS feed from your blog with your article submissions (Ezine Articles has RSS feed for each author) then submit your RSS feeds to various directories.
This will put your article distribution on hyper-drive since many blogs across the net are driven by automatic feeds based on keywords so you never know where your articles will show up.
Since RSS feeds are pretty automated it decreases the removal of resource boxes, but you can always use a WordPress plugin that automatically adds a non-removable footer to your blog RSS feed.
