A few weeks ago, we talked about secret agents that help my
business. You learned about automatic emails that invite your
visitors to newsletters, tell them about your products, give them
links to ebooks and even ask for testimonials. And all of this
happens while you are eating dinner, playing with your children
or even while you are sleeping.
Of course, now you want to know where to find some of these
secret agents.
Well…if you are a computer programmer, you could write your own
script and then upload it all to your server, but may I suggest
an easier way. You pay about $30 a month and use an auto-
responder service.
And really, there are only two I would recommend. And here is
where I have to warn you to choose wisely, because switching is
HARD!
Why do I say that switching is hard? Because the major
auto-responder companies have all gone to double opt-in or
confirmed subscription. It works like this:
A visitor comes to your web site and puts his name and email in
your email capture box to join your newsletter, get a fr.e.e
ebook or whatever. Sometimes he forgets he agreed to receive your
email and when it shows up in his inbox, he says, “Ahhhh, this is
spam!”
He then reports your email as unsolicited email and you and your
email provider get blacklisted by Internet providers like AOL and
others. So, to protect themselves, auto-responder companies send
a confirmation link to your visitors when they “opt-in” to your
email list so that they can prove that the visitor did, in fact,
request the email from you.
Now, here is where the rub comes in.
If you choose one auto-responder company and want to switch to
another auto-responder company, many times they will require that
all of your email subscribers “opt-in” again. Do you understand
what I am saying? Getting people to commit to much of anything
on the Internet is extremely difficult and here is a company
asking all of my subscribers to re-subscribe just to protect the
auto-responder company.
I have heard of people losing 3/4 of their email list overnight
trying to switch auto-responder companies. People who have worked
for ten years to build a substantial list of those who
consistently buy their products loose it all in one day!
So the moral of this story is choose wisely AT THE BEGINNING!
Switching is hard and you can lose a big portion of what you
worked so hard to get.
Next time, I will give you the good and bad points of the two
auto-responders I recommend.
But before you go, will you take a little survey for me? It is
only 12 questions about my new course, “Secrets to Building Sites
That Sell” and should only take you a few minutes. I will even
throw in my ebook, “Starting a Family Business on the Internet”
to those who fill out the survey.
So, please click the link below and fill out the survey. It would
mean a lot to me.
