Part 1 of 3 – Build Your List In Just 30-Minutes A Day!

Want to build a massive herd of people who follow you and take action on your recommendations? Then start visiting the watering holes!

Regardless of what niche you’re in, posting on forums can be an excellent way to drive traffic to your blog. It doesn’t matter whether you’re using your blog to give people marketing tips or tell them how to buy a car, there’s a forum for you!

If you’re willing to find those forums and follow the five steps I’m going outline, your blog will benefit richly.

Step #1: Pick Your Forums

Before you do anything else, you should head to http://www.big-boards.com and construct a list of promising forums. Use the “browse” feature to locate forums that fall within your niche or that are related to your niche.

As you go through this process, you may want to open up a spreadsheet to keep track of your findings. You should make note of these details for each forum:

- URL (address of the forum)
- the primary focus of the forum
- the total post number
- the total member count

These numbers are all listed on Big Boards.

Tip: Optionally, you may also go to http://www.alexa.com to look up traffic statistics for each forum.

In addition to collecting hard data on each forum, you will also want to visit each of the ones you’ve added to your list.

At a first glance, see what you can learn about the general demeanor of the forum; and also try to discern how active it is. In general, you will want to focus on forums where people are
generally positive and helpful; and where there is a high-degree of participation.

Finally, using both your spreadsheet data and the notes you’ve jotted down about each forum, decide which ones you’ll visit regularly and post on.

Tip: As a general rule of thumb, it is better to concentrate on a few very good forums, rather than spreading yourself thin over many.

As many of you know, I have some property out in the country about 30 minutes from my house. And many of you also know my dog absolutely LOVES going out there with me.

The only problem? The main reason I go out there is to shoot my pistol and she doesn’t like gun fire! She will follow me all over the land, but as soon as I pull out my pistol, she disappears to the pond and then lays under an abandoned van I have out there for storage.

Yesterday, my daughter and I took my rifle out to the Lazy B (my “pet” name for the property) to sight in the scope. Of course Midnight becomes scarce when she hears the booming rifle. We sight the rifle in and start to leave.

Where’s Midnight?

Not at the pond. Not under the van. Nowhere. For 7 years she has been coming to the Lazy B (every other weekend) and has never disappeared.

I looked everywhere on the property. The pond. The barn. The outhouse. The woods. Everywhere. I even drove to a couple neighboring properties, but no one was home. I had to get home for a dentist appointment at 2pm, but made plans to come back afterwards and bring fliers for my neighbors.

Leaving my property and driving home was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. I knew if I left, the chances of finding her would drop dramatically.

Driving home, every dark shape on the side of the road …every dead animal …caused a lump to form in my throat. What am I going to tell my wife? What am I going to tell the kids? Midnight’s been a part of our lives for 11 years!

I finished my dentist appointment (need 2 crowns!) and made some fliers and headed back to the Lazy B. On the way, I handed some fliers out to the corner bait shop and a few biker bars near my property. Maybe they would spot Midnight when they headed home.

I thought the rough, burly bikers would laugh about a lost dog, but they were ready to hop on their bikes and search for her!

Finally, I made it back to the Lazy B, but no sign of Midnight. So I started putting fliers in the mailboxes of my neighbors. One of my neighbors didn’t have a mailbox on the road, so I pulled in the dirt road driveway to put a flier on his front door.

As I approached the door, I heard a rustling under his pickup truck. Now when you’re in the country, people let their dogs hang out while they’re gone and I’m thinking, “Oh great! I’m about to get eaten by my neighbor’s dog!”

And guess who pops out from under my neighbor’s truck! Midnight! I guess she didn’t like the rifle sound enough to run a half-mile away and hide under this guy’s truck!

Needless to say, I was VERY happy.

I stopped by the biker bar just to let them know that I found Midnight and the whole bar went crazy! I could’ve had free drinks till Christmas!

Wow, what a happy ending.
