How to run your own webinars…that is the question.
To begin with, you will have to create an interesting presentation that compels your audience to act. You will want to educate your viewers, but in the end, you want them to buy your product or services
You have to walk the fine line of giving really great content as well as asking them to DO SOMETHING at the end of your webinar. That can be visiting your website, picking up the phone or driving over for a visit.
After you create a killer presentation, you have to find a webinar hosting company so you can present your information to hundreds of people at one time. There are several good ones out there including GoToWebinar, WebEx, Adobe Connect and few others. Or you can hire individuals to run your webinar for you.
Also, there are webinar “how to” courses that show you every step and give you the reasoning behind each one. Make sure you choose a course that has lots of step by step video so you don’t get lost. Then turn the course over to your techie person, employee, secretary or teenage kid and have them learn how to setup your webinar!
Next, you have to have a way of recording the webinar so you can show the replay. Let’s face it, not everyone will be able to attend your webinar “in person,” so you can pick up a few more sales by offering a replay.
Now here’s a million dollar tip: Always have a reason to “buy now” in your webinar. Either the sale price is expiring in 48 hours …or you only have a limited amount of appointments left …or an extra special bonus will expire at the end of the week …anything to get them to take action immediately after the webinar.
This is why it’s ideal for you to have as many viewers watching your webinar “live.” It gives you greater control over the event and the rewards for taking action. However, even in the replay, you can make it clear that there are incentives for acting immediately.
And finally, you want to follow up with your webinar attendees. If you ask for full contact information, you can send those that didn’t buy a postcard, direct mail piece or even pick up the phone and call them.
The beauty of running a webinar is that it leaves you with folks who are “qualified.” If they have signed on for your webinar, spent 30 or 60 minutes listening, and spent time with you in follow-up, they will very likely buy your product or service.
Why not give webinars a try? They are really not too complicated to set up and can yield you big results.

Trying to record your webinar?
Let me show you a few tricks, but first, here are some reasons why you would want to record your webinar in the first place:
- Replays
Many people who couldn’t attend your webinar live are still interested in your products or services. So, providing a replay is a great way to get more sales and even have your customers pass the replay along to others virally.
- Product Creation
A webinar recording makes a great stand-alone product when you upload it to a password protected site or burn it to a CD.
- Training Module
This one is related to “product creation” above. Record a webinar so you can add the recording to an existing product or perhaps extra training on a specific topic. You could even record webinars and use them as bonuses to give away with the purchase of one of your major products.
So, how to record a webinar?
Some webinar hosting companies have a recording feature built in, but you always want your own recording as a back up. And strange as it may sound, your recording may higher quality.
Step 1: Login into your webinar host as the organizer and start your webinar
Step 2: Using a SECOND computer, login as an attendee to your own webinar
The second computer needs to have screen capture software such as Camtasia so that you can capture your webinar that is now showing on the screen. Screen capture software will capture all of the video and audio from your webinar – and allow you to turn it into whatever file type you need.
Step3: On your second computer that is recording your webinar, set your screen parameters and audio settings and hit “record.”
Make sure you set your audio to record “inline” and use a 1/8 to 1/8 audio jack to “trick” the computer into recording only the webinar and not your voice when presenting on the other computer. Otherwise you would have to out the recording computer in another room that is completely quiet!
But if you plug one end of the 1/8″ cable into the mic jack and the other end of the 1/8″ cable into the headphone jack, you can set the recording computer right next to you and even see in real time what your attendees are seeing. This helps with lag problems and is a great safety check when presenting live.
Step 4: When finished recording, render the file either to burn to a CD or for uploading to the Internet.
You can also spice up your recording by adding music on the front end and back end. Make sure to use royalty-free so you don’t get in trouble. You can also add a “call to action” on the web page that has your webinar replay. This way, they don’t have far to go when they watch your replay and want to buy!
So, record your webinars and start watching your online or offline business explode using webinars!

Want to host a webinar? Great! There are three things you must do in order to successfully hold a webinar…
1. Host a webinar
2. Conduct a webinar
3. Produce a webinar
Host a Webinar
Before you can show your information to hundreds of people at the same time, you have to choose a webinar hosting company. There are several including GoToWebinar, Web Ex, Omnovia, Adobe Connect and so on.
Most webinar hosting companies require your attendees to “register” for your webinar. You decide how much information you require for the registration, but here is a million dollar tip: If you require FULL CONTACT information, then you can remind your attendees the day of the webinar with an email …or even an automated phone call using VoiceShot. How cool is that!
And if you have required their address as part of the registration, you can send them a piece of direct mail after the webinar to encourage more sales. You could even pick up the phone and call a few of your attendees to generate more sales!
So a webinar hosting company not only allows you to “register” your attendees, they also provide the technology so that your attendees can see your computer screen and hear your voice (either over the phone or by computer mic).
Conduct a Webinar
Once you chosen your webinar host and set up your webinar, next you will actually conduct your webinar. Usually this means your power point in “slide show” or “presentation” mode, but don’t be afraid to show other things such as a spreadsheet, your favorite web sites on the Internet and even a video or two.
Here’s a warning about videos. Full-motion video will lag on most webinar hosting platforms, but the sound won’t. So if you have a testimonial from a successful student or client you want to show, go for it! The video portion may not be in sync with the audio, but they will see the person and hear his voice and that is very powerful for sales.
Another tip when conducting a webinar is to use the “polls” feature. Your attendees will love the interaction and you will get a good sense of where their obstacles are. If you identify their problem and then offer the solution, you will have a VERY successful webinar!
Produce a Webinar
After your live webinar, you want to make a replay available. Not only is this common courtesy for those who could not attend live, but you will also generate more sales because some will watch it over again and even share the webinar replay with their friends.
So, to produce a webinar replay, you need to record the webinar on a separate computer using a software called Camtasia. The second computer logs in as an attendee, hit the record button and away you go.
You will want to separate the recording into 8-10 minute chunks to avoid buffering problems for your viewers and then render the files in swf format. Camtasia allows you to combine these swf files into an attractive table of contents that makes it perfect for replays.
So there you have it…host a webinar, conduct a webinar and produce a webinar. It is really not that complicated and can make you a ton of money if you do it right!
