New (and CHEAP!) Software Makes Audio a SNAP!

Hey,

You have heard me say over and over that having your voice on
your website is vital to creating warmth and trust with your
visitors.

I can’t tell you how many emails I get saying “I feel like I know
you…” just because my readers here my voice on my web site.
Face it. People only buy from those they know, like and
trust…and what better way to get people to know, like and trust
you than hearing your voice on your web site?

Now, the problem thus far has been the technology.

First, you had to make a recording. Then you had to edit it. Then
you had to change it to mp3 format. Then you had to reduce the
bit-rate so the file wasn’t too big for audio streaming. then you
had to convert it to flash so you could control when it came on
and off. And finally…IT WAS BORING, because there was no music
behind it!!!

Well, all that has changed! And for the price of a nice dinner
for one!

Gary Ambrose has created a piece of software that will record
your message (or you can input an audio file if you like), change
it into the right format for audio streaming and create the audio
controls for you in whatever color you want!

Then, all you do is paste the code into your web page or
blog. It is a BREEZE! This is the simplest software I have
used in a LONG time. And you get 6 music backgrounds that
fade in and fade out…whatever you want.

Believe me. This is easy. I have been adding sound to my web
sites for about a year now, but this thing adds music (if you
want it, or not if you don’t) and sounds REALLY professional!

Quit Doing Everything Yourself!

Hi!

I would like to illustrate a VERY important business principle by
telling a little bit about my former life as a general
contractor.

Most of you know that I was in the construction industry for 20
years before starting my online businesses. What you probably
don’t know is how close I came to folding my construction company
and working for someone else after 5 years of struggling.

You see, when you start a construction company, the most
important thing on your mind is finding work. I started off with
small repair jobs that would last about 2-3 days, but stringing
enough jobs back-to-back, without any down time, was kind of
tough at first.

Pretty soon I had all of the small jobs I could handle, but I
really wanted the larger jobs that were more profitable and where
you could stay in one place longer (it was much more efficient
than setting up for a new job every morning).

Finally, I started landing larger jobs and pretty soon, I had all
the work that I and a helper could handle. Large jobs, small jobs
and everything in between.

Then, it began to dawn on me that I had maxed out. I could not
physically do anymore work in a week than I was doing at the
time. I could not take on any more work because there was only
one of me (and a helper) to do the work.

And another thing hit me…

I could not make anymore money than I was making at the time,
because I could not physically produce any more work. There was
only so much I could do. I had reached an earning plateau because
of what I could physically produce in a given year.

The problem was…I knew I could quit my construction company and
go to work as a building superintendent for a large homebuilder
in Houston. I could make about the same amount of money AND get
free medical insurance, free dental insurance, a retirement plan
and even go home at 6pm everyday.

I had none of these benefits being self-employed.

So I had to make a decision. Continue to work 70 hours a week at
a fixed income with no benefits…or make a change. Well, I made
a change…

I heard about some courses for remodeling contractors offered by
the Home Builders Association in San Antonio, about 3 hours away
from my town. So, I bit the bullet, got a hotel room for 3 nights
and drove to San Antonio.

Although I learned a ton in the courses, I learned even more
during the lunches and dinners with the other people taking the
courses. One of the people I met was Don Boozer (yep, that’s his
real name!). Don told me to put down the hammer, quit doing
everything myself and begin general contracting.

“If I don’t do the work, I will need to call others to do the
work for me. Why would anyone pay me just to make phone calls?”,
I asked.

Don replied, “Oh, they’ll pay you and they’ll pay you well!”

And so they did.

The next year my income doubled (that superintendent job in
Houston was no longer very attractive!) and the following year my
income doubled again. After that, I never made less than six
figures a year.

Why do I tell you that story?

Because, the only way to increase your income fast is to increase
your business awareness fast. And the fastest way to do that is
to attend a conference THAT IS SPECIFIC TO YOUR INDUSTRY.

My Book Publishing Fiasco!

Want Your Site to Appear on the Front Page of Google?

I’ve just been checking where some of my pages are ranked in
Google. A little while back, I did some keyword research related
to my niche of teaching business to families and used that
research to manipulate some of my pages so that they rank higher
in Google.

I am happy to say that I rank in the top 10 in Google for many of
the keywords that I have targeted. What is this mean in English?

It means more visitors to my web site, which translates to more
sales, and also translates into more subscribers to my
newsletter, which translates into future sales!

So, this search engine optimization stuff really works!

Now, about those three ways to optimize your web page:..

First, include your target keyword in the title of your page.
Now I am not talking about the title that people see on your
page, I am talking about when you right-click on your web page in
your HTML editor and you click on page properties, it will have a
space for the title. Type your target keyword in there. You will
know you’ve done this right when you see it in the blue bar at
the top of your browser in the preview mode of your HTML editor.

Second, type your target keyword at the top of your page and use
your HTML editor to make it into an H1 or H2 tag. Remember, this
is different than the title tag on your page, which we covered in
the first step.

Third, use your target keyword in the text in the body of your
web page. Use it once or twice in the first paragraph, again in
the second paragraph, and then maybe at the end. Don’t use it too
often, or you might get penalized by Google.

There you have it for the on-page optimization. Off-page
optimization consists of getting backward links, but I’ll talk
about that another time.
